Kenneth Taylor is a Dutch international who recently moved to Lazio from Ajax, where he'd spent his entire footballing career up to that point.
Taylor made an immediate positive impact at Lazio, as Maurizio Sarri identified him as a playmaking and goalscoring addition to the team’s midfield.
Taylor’s addition was quickly noticed in the few games he has played since his arrival, given that his performances have never been passive.
In other words, he was impactful in terms of results for his new team, having scored twice against Bologna and once against Genoa, and being very involved in most of the team’s attacking actions.
Being confirmed as a starter in Sarri’s system allowed him to gain even more confidence and play with greater ease in a league that not all players adapt to as quickly as Taylor.
In this Kenneth Taylor scout report, we will explore Taylor's profile, his potential development at Lazio, and the positions and roles he can master.
We will also identify his strengths and weaknesses in playmaking and goalscoring.
Kenneth Taylor Profile & Possible Positions/Roles
Taylor is a midfielder with qualities and abilities that are rare in Serie A.
The level of creativity, vision, passing skills, and intelligent penetrations make him stand out as one of the most promising midfielders who have recently joined the league.
In addition, he is characterised by outstanding shooting skills that allow him to finish on goal with considerable threat whenever he makes intelligent penetrations or wins second balls.
He confirmed his ability to be very dangerous in the final third, as he advances a lot and has remarkable offensive abilities that obligate Lazio to rely on him heavily from that perspective.
That’s why Maurizio Sarri started exploiting his attacking abilities much more, and the results have begun to appear progressively, with Taylor scoring goals and providing key passes more often.
Taylor is primarily a central midfielder who can also play as an attacking or defensive midfielder.
However, his defensive abilities and statistics throughout his career suggest he performs much better when used as a central midfielder or an advanced playmaker.
Since Lazio are playing according to Sarri’s preferred 4-3-3 formation most of the time, Taylor cannot be used as an advanced playmaker and is therefore employed as a left central midfielder (mezzala), with more freedom in attack and instructions to provide the necessary support in the final third during the attacking phase.
Taylor has already shown that he is reliable in terms of playmaking, whether under pressure inside the team’s own third or in terms of dribbling and key passing.
The following Figure 1 radar chart highlights his excellent passing abilities and confirms that he can become an even more dangerous attacking player, given his outstanding passing numbers last season at Ajax.
Taylor still has room for improvement in dangerous passing and can become crucial in this regard in Serie A as well, especially if Sarri knows how to develop this passing talent.
What is even more impressive is that Taylor has been very decisive and extremely useful for the team in terms of goal contributions, an aspect that he is starting to show with Lazio lately, but is yet to reach his full potential in this regard, or at least his Ajax form.
Taylor was able to score 15 goals and provide eight assists in 52 games last season, a very impressive stat for a midfielder, especially in terms of goalscoring.
This season can serve as an adaptation period and a test for Taylor to showcase his abilities and start building chemistry with his teammates, with the hope of reaching or getting close to the goal-contribution numbers he achieved with Ajax in the 2024/2025 season.
Another important aspect to consider when looking at Taylor’s profile is the opposition penalty box touches per game, which were extremely high for Taylor last season.
Being able to position himself intelligently to receive passes in that dangerous area and make himself available there while escaping marking is what makes Taylor even more valuable as a midfielder.
That said, the defensive aspect is something Taylor needs to work hard to improve in the coming period, as it is required of a midfielder in the 4-3-3 formation to help actively in the defensive phase, whether with interceptions, tight marking, closing down opposing midfielders/wingers, or otherwise.

Kenneth Taylor Goalscoring & Playmaking Skills
Taylor is a left-footed player who has already shown he can score goals and be decisive in the box with both feet, which is very important for ensuring unpredictability.
He has shown on numerous occasions that he can control the ball with his left and shoot with his right, and vice versa, with a lot of intelligence in his shooting decision-making and timing.
Certainly, positioning himself well in the final third facilitates many of his penetrations without the ball and helps him receive key passes in that area.
Added to that, knowing how to deal with the complicated situations inside the box makes him a valuable player in attack, since he guarantees quality finishing on most occasions.
Taylor often participates actively in the playmaking process in the team’s own half, then quickly advances to provide an inviting passing option for his teammates.
His vertical forward movements into the box are often rewarding, as Lazio’s players have already begun relying on his penetrations as part of their attacking plan.
Kenneth Taylor Intelligent Movements & Goalscoring Instinct
The following goal action against Bologna showcases the importance of Taylor’s penetrations into the box and his intelligence in spotting exactly when he can hurt the opposing defence with them.
To explain what happened in this action more clearly, Taylor provided a pass to the left flank and then advanced as he noticed that the defender covering the area he was attacking began leaning to the left to mark the potential ball receiver.
This made Taylor advance more quickly and with greater conviction, as he knew that the defender’s man-marking of his opponent would leave gaps in that defensive line he could exploit.
The good thing is that Lazio’s players have already started to understand Taylor’s movements well enough to serve him at the right moment and enable him to exploit those movements without the ball, turning them into dangerous actions.
In this action, he received a through pass as soon as he reached the edge of the box.
What confirms his goalscoring instinct and ability to deal with the various complicated situations in front of goal is the way he dealt with this one: He received the pass and was disturbed by the goalkeeper’s advancing to intercept the ball, so he quickly decided to dribble past him thanks to his first oriented touch before finishing inside the net using his left foot.
This kind of striker action makes Taylor a very useful attacking midfielder who still has considerable room for improvement, especially in his attacking contribution, given his talent in this regard.

It is important to note that his first goal in this match was also scored thanks to his intelligent movement in the final third and his ability to win second balls and deal with them effectively.
Kenneth Taylor Penetrations Without The Ball
Another aspect that helps a lot in the attacking phase is Taylor’s ability to come from behind in a surprising way and be crucial in terms of finishing, as he usually provides the most suitable solution for his teammates.
There are many examples of this type of action, especially during his time at Ajax, but I preferred to pick one of his goalscoring actions at Lazio in order to further understand his attacking impact on the team.
In the following action, Gustav Isaksen dribbled past his opponent and waited patiently for a reliable passing option, but was not convinced by any of his teammates’ movements, mainly because they were either marked or running in the wrong direction.
Isaksen found the best passing option when he saw Taylor advancing from the back and keeping his marker behind him, after he had been in front of Taylor at the beginning of the action.
This means that Taylor knew exactly when to accelerate and beat his direct opponent on the run, offering a convincing passing option to his teammate in an inviting position, who had no other concrete options.
Having a similar player on the team who consistently provides highly suitable passing options when situations become complicated adds significant value to the Dutch midfielder and makes him central to Lazio’s attacking solutions.
Furthermore, being used to executing first-time shots accurately and in a surprising way for goalkeepers makes him even more successful with such advancing, as he usually makes his shooting angle and type decisions before receiving the pass.
In this example, he was aware of the best shooting solution to confuse the goalkeeper before receiving the pass, which helped him execute the shot accurately towards the bottom-left corner.
