At a time when the traditional number nine is gradually disappearing from the modern game, Dion Drena Beljo represents a refreshing profile of striker.

Combining physical dominance, intelligent movement and effective link play, the Dinamo Zagreb forward has emerged as one of the most complete attacking prospects in Croatian football.

Beljo enjoyed a remarkable 2025/26 campaign, scoring 31 goals to help GNK Dinamo Zagreb secure their 26th HNLtop-end title.

His performances showcased not only his finishing ability, but also his tactical intelligence, aerial presence and importance within Dinamo’s overall attacking structure.

In this Dion Drena Beljo scout report and player analysis, we conduct a detailed player analysis of why Beljo could become a target for Europe’s elite clubs next season, while also emerging as one of the key weapons of the Croatia national football team ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

Dion Drena Beljo Individual Ability & Physical Qualities

Beljo possesses an imposing physical profile at 195cm/6'5", making him a difficult forward for defenders to handle in duels.

He regularly uses his upper-body strength to shield the ball and create separation between the ball and the opposing defender, allowing him to protect the play effectively while bringing teammates into attacking moves, as seen in Figure 1.

Despite his tall frame, Beljo also possesses very good top-end speed once he opens up his stride.

However, his acceleration over shorter distances is less explosive, meaning he can take slightly longer to reach maximum pace.

This makes him more effective at attacking open spaces over distance rather than relying on quick bursts in tight areas.

Beljo possesses a technically solid, although somewhat inconsistent, first touch.

He generally prefers receiving the ball with the inside of his boot in order to guide possession into his next action quickly.

He also shows a respectable ability to control bouncing deliveries.

Rather than attacking the ball aggressively, Beljo often attempts to cushion it with a softer touch using the bridge of his foot, helping him bring difficult passes under control while maintaining attacking momentum.

One of his more underrated qualities is his awareness of space inside the final third.

Beljo constantly scans the play in front of him, looking for openings that emerge within the opposition's defensive structure.

However, compared to many modern forwards, Beljo is not an especially strong dribbler in isolated situations.

Despite his imposing physical frame, he can also improve his hold-up play, as he is not always consistent when receiving with his back to goal.

Dion Drena Beljo Movement In The Box

Beljo is highly effective in the penalty area, particularly in the timing of his runs between central defenders.

He likes to attack spaces early, before the defensive line can react, as seen against Çağlar Söyüncü and Milan Škriniar, when he stayed onside and exploited the gaps, as seen in Figure 2.

Against KRC Genk, Beljo showcased his deceptive movement by initially feinting towards the right before sharply moving left to lose his marker and receive the ball within tap-in range, as seen in Figure 3a and Figure 3b.

He also consistently attacks the blind side of centre-backs, using quick movements to appear unexpectedly and meet crosses inside the box.

This ability to manipulate defenders makes him a dangerous presence in close-range finishing situations.

Dion Drena Beljo On The Ball

Beljo serves as the primary reference point in Dinamo’s attacking structure, with his positioning playing a major role in manipulating the opposition's defensive line.

By consistently occupying centre-backs and pinning them deeper, he creates additional pockets of space for the wingers and midfielders to exploit, as seen in Figure 4.
