Can Uzun Physical Profile & Individual Ability

Uzun possesses a physical and technical profile that makes him particularly effective as a modern attacking player.

Standing at 1.86 metres tall, he has a strong frame that allows him to compete physically with defenders while still maintaining agility in tight spaces.

Although he does not possess the explosive acceleration typically associated with traditional wingers, Uzun still has respectable speed over longer distances.

According to official UEFA Champions League data, he has recorded a top speed of 30.6 kilometres per hour, which demonstrates that he can carry a threat in transitional situations when attacking open space.

His movement is characterised by medium strides, allowing him to maintain balance and coordination when receiving possession or driving forward with the ball.

Tactically, Uzun appears most comfortable operating as a second striker rather than an isolated centre-forward.

He thrives when playing behind a more traditional number nine, such as Jonathan Burkardt.

Technically, his first touch is one of the standout aspects of his game.

Uzun often cushions the ball using the inside of his boot, enabling him to bring difficult passes under control smoothly and prepare quickly for the next action.

He particularly favours operating in the right half space, where he can combine, receive on the turn and attack defensive structures creatively.

How Uzun Uses His Spatial Awareness When Frankfurt Have The Ball

Rather than remaining static between opposition midfield and defensive lines, Uzun constantly uses movement to manipulate defenders and create separation.

A recurring pattern in Frankfurt’s build-up is Uzun’s use of double movements.

Initially, he makes a forward movement that encourages his marker to follow him into higher zones.

Once the defender is drawn out of position, Uzun quickly changes direction and drops into the newly created pocket of space between the lines, as seen in Figure 2.

When Frankfurt are forced to play out against an aggressive press, Uzun also demonstrates tactical flexibility by dropping deeper within the structure.

Instead of remaining high up the pitch waiting for service, he actively participates in the build-up phase by receiving possession from defenders or midfielders.

From these deeper positions, he often looks to switch play quickly, helping Frankfurt escape pressure and exploit spaces on the weak side.

Uzun also possesses the individual quality to solve situations independently when passing options are limited.
